According to the municipal government, fire, public works, and emergency services worked 24 hours on any small fires from embers that jumped the river overnight.
No buildings in Hay River have been reported damaged by emergency services.
“The conditions in Hay River yesterday were very challenging yesterday,” the town shared on social media.
RCMP remain in the area providing patrol services and security precautions including areas where crews will be working through the day.
Aerial firefighting has stopped due to smoke and poor visibility, the air quality in Hay River remains poor.
Around 5:00 p.m. yesterday evening, a wind shift allowed crews to continue their efforts to control the fire through the evening and crews reported rainfall to be helpful through the process.
The town says as of this morning, it is still not safe to return.

The airport, health care, and all municipal buildings remain closed.
According to the town, Hay River Regional Health will need to bring back workers from where they are supporting existing patients in other communities before a reopening timeline can be established.
