Temperatures to cool in Hay River as crews continue addressing hotspots during re-entry

Temperatures are expected to cool off in Hay River alongside a slight chance of precipitation later today.

According to NWT Fire, containment lines continue to hold as residents re-enter the community; however, smoky conditions due to increased fire behaviour east of the river will continue in the coming days.

Scans of the region have revealed hotspots in the ditch areas along Mink Creek and throughout the Hay River Corridor. Officials say further assessment of areas along the rail bed will be conducted for further mop-up in affected areas.

NWT Fire continues to work with the community of Enterprise to address hotspots in the community after much of the hamlet was damaged in the early days of the wildfire season.

Structure protections have been tasked with sprinkler set up in “priority areas” and demobilization of gear in non-priority areas.
