Calgary’s Mount Royal University and the Łutsel K’é Dene First Nation have announced the signing of a practicum agreement on National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
According to the university, the practicum will open up opportunities for students enrolled in Mount Royal’s Faculty of Health, Community and Education (FCHE) to work with the First Nation and support their recreation needs.
“This partnership that we are creating is for the greater community and I think we are going to see a great benefit for our youth,” Łutsel K’é Dene Chief James Marlowe says.
Over the summer, Mount Royal University representatives visited the NWT community and came to a five-year agreement that will provide students with the opportunity to take practicum placements in the Nation.
“Mount Royal University puts community at the heart of what it does and that speaks to our faculty which focuses on those community, healthcare and educational needs which are so important,” Dean of the Faculty of Health, Community and Education at MRU Dr. Stephen Price says.
According to the university, further work is being done to explore other options for practicum opportunities in the Łutsel K’é community in other FCHE programs.
