Due to an on-going investigation into the use and sale of Fentanyl in Hay River, RCMP officers executed a drug warrant at a residence in the community on October 1, 2023.
According to the RCMP, investigators were tipped off to the location after responding to two suspected overdoses in the residence within hours of each other.
Police say the first incident occurred on September 22 around 9:00 pm when officers received a call regarding a woman who was overdosing on Fentanyl. Upon arrival, officers administered four doses of Narcan for the woman to regain consciousness.
The second occurred five hours later at 1:56 am on September 23, and the RCMP says officers attended the residence and determined a number of other people in the residence administered Naloxone to the second individual before police arrived.
The two individuals were both transported to hospital for additional treatment.
As a result, the Hay River RCMP began an investigation into the possession and sale of Fentanyl from the residence and executed a search warrant a week later on October 1.
According to police, the search resulted in the recovery of 65 grams of suspected Fentanyl and “other various items.” Additionally, police arrested a man and woman, and charges are now pending.
