A woman who resided in Yellowknife under an alias has been confirmed to have been responsible for the death of a 21-year-old Scottsdale, Arizona woman following a fatal crash in 1994.
U.S authorities had charged Gloria Schulze, also known as ‘Kate Dooley’, with manslaughter and endangerment after hitting a vehicle driven by Angela Maher, but fled the country before trial. Despite being tried and convicted in absentia in 2001, police still had few ideas as to where Schulze had fled.
According to KTAR in Scottsdale, there was a breakthrough in the case in 2020, after police analysts spoke with Schulze’s brother, who had reportedly received an anonymous call that his sister, under an assumed identity, had passed away from cancer in Yellowknife in December 2019.
A fingerprint record comparison between Schulze and ‘Dooley’ confirmed the identity of the convicted woman on April 17th, 2024.
