The City of Yellowknife once again gathered to its queer population with its annual Pride Parade!
While this is only the second year that the city has hosted a parade, the turnout from the public was still incredible. While it looked like the parade would take place under some chilly winds and grey clouds, the weather quickly improved, bringing lots of sunshine to the parade, and to the afterparty at Somba K’e park afterwards.

After the parade, a drag performer by the name of Thunder Norms spoke about the turnout of the event.
“It’s fantastic! I love the turnout, it’s been lots of fun, really great reception to the community, both being in the parade and the stands. It means the world to us in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to have support. To know that this is a place where we can be safe, we can be out, and we can be proud, is important.”
When asked about what makes Yellowknife’s Pride events special, they said that it was the sense of security.
“The biggesst thing for me is that the Northern Mosaic Network and Yellowknife Pride intentionally make sure that things are safe. So, when they’re encouraging us to play loud music and to be our authentic selves, they’re also doing it knowing full well they can make sure that we don’t have to be in any kind of danger and we’re super safe.”
They also expressed how happy they were that Yellowknife as a whole is so welcoming to the queer community, making everyone feel accepted.
