New Children’s Book Unveiled by Bella Dance Academy

To help celebrate their twentieth anniversary, Yellowknife’s Bella Dance Academy has revealed a brand-new children’s book.

This year’s dance recital by the Academy was accompanied by showcases of original works of art from local artists. Among them was the new book, commissioned by the Academy for the recital. Written by Amber Henry and illustrated by John Henderson, the book is titled “If You Take Me to the Nutcracker.”

The book was commissioned by Bella Dance Academy’s owner, Phoenix Smith. She wanted the book to encapsulate the experience of a child being inspired by a dance performance, deciding to take lessons, and performing on the stage of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre as a graduating student.

All proceeds from sales of the book will be going towards Bella Dance Academy’s Scholarship Program, which aims to provide dance opportunities for as many Yellowknife children and families as possible.

The book will officially be made available later this summer.
