Yellowknife Enters Construction Season

The City of Yellowknife is reminding residents to keep an eye out for any construction activities taking place within the city.

As we head into the summer months, construction is expected to increase throughout the city.

On the City of Yellowknife Website, two major projects are listed. The first is water and sewer maintenance on 49A avenue from 43rd Street to 42nd Street. This project is already underway, and is expected to run until early July. It is focussing on replacing the current water and sewer services on homes in the area. Nearby roads will be closed as progress on this project is made, and detours will be required by motorists.

The second project is paving construction on Hordal Road from Spence Road to Finlayson Drive. This project is also currently being worked on, and is expected to be done by July. This project is working to reinstate all of the asphalt, curbs, and sidewalks that were removed during last year’s water and sewage upgrade.

Alongside those projects, work continues on the City’s new indoor aquatic centre, and the City is also proposing a new Area Development Plan for the area to the west of Enterprise Drive.

When encountering construction crews, motorists are reminded to be mindful of their surroundings and follow the directions of any signs posted in the area. Commuters should also plan their routes around construction areas, as traffic delays can become common.
