New Executive Director Appointed for Yellowknife Community Foundation

The Yellowknife Community Foundation now has a new Executive Director.

Retroactively effective as of June 3rd, Korry Garvey has just been selected as the new Executive Director. Garvey has an extensive background in both private and non-profit sectors, and has useful skills in program management and business administration. She has worked with various volunteer and social services groups both in Yellowknife, and the wider NWT.

In a statement regarding the announcement, Garvey said that she was honoured to take up this new role.

“I look forward to working with the team and our community partners to build on the organization’s strong foundation and guiding values.”

In her own statement, Laurie Gault, the Chair od the Foundation, took the opportunity to thank the previous Executive Director, Sophie Kirby. She praised Kirby’s leadership, initiative, and determination.

“[Kirby] has forged new partnerships and propelled the organization and its mission to a higher level. The Board is indeed grateful to Sophie for her contributions and for her offer to help support Korry’s transition to her new role. We wish Sophie much success in her new job.”

The Yellowknife Community Foundation was first founded back in 1993 as a charitable organization, and constantly works to inspire impactful giving within the community.
