The fire in Fort Good Hope has grown to cover more than 5,000 hectares. A map with updated details is available below for reference. The fire has reached the outskirts of the community, but no buildings have been damaged.

Efforts to control the fire will focus on containing it and creating barriers along the side facing the community. Local firefighters are working with the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) to share equipment and resources. Protecting buildings is their main priority.

Relief is coming soon. A team of 20 firefighters from Yukon is expected to arrive in Fort Good Hope today to take over from the current crews. In addition, a safety officer has been sent to the site.

A Q&A session with the Chief and leaders of Fort Good Hope will be held today at the Norman Wells evacuation centre through a teleconference. This is an opportunity for evacuees to stay informed. There have been no major changes in their strategies or work assignments in responding to the fire.

The recent weak surface trough has moved away, bringing back northeast winds by Friday morning. The winds will shift more to the north as the day progresses. A drier air mass will be introduced by a surface ridge forming in the northeastern Sahtu region on Friday, causing relative humidity (RH) levels to drop to 25 per cent. The lowest RH is expected in the evening, staying between 25-30 per cent until late evening. The temperatures will return to near-seasonal averages. A warmer and drier day with varied cloud cover is expected.
