Woman Charged with Assault after Injuring Infant

A woman has just been laid with serious charges after assaulting an infant back in April.

On April 24th, Yellowknife RCMP were informed by the Health and Social Services Authority that an infant had been taken to the Stanton Territorial Hospital. The baby was suffering from life-altering injuries of a suspicious nature, and was transported to Edmonton for further treatment.

The Yellowknife RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit was called into action, and an investigation was conducted with help from the Health and Social Services Authority and the Child and Adolescent Protection Center in Edmonton. During their investigation, they found the suspect that they believe is responsible, and found that they had also abused a toddler, though the injuries were not as severe as the infant’s.

When the investigation concluded on June 17th, a 41-year-old woman was arrested and charged with Assault and Aggravated Assault. She has already made an appearance before a Justice of the Peace, and will be appearing in Yellowknife Territorial Court at a later date.

The RCMP are looking for any additional information on this case, and can be contacted at 669-1111.
