Yellowknife Man Arrested after Confining Victim Against Their Will

One man in Yellowknife was recently arrested as a result of holding another individual against their will.

Yellowknife RCMP were informed of the situation early in the morning on June 26th, when the female victim informed them that she had just escaped from a tent where she was being confined against her will and assaulted by the male suspect with a weapon.

Local RCMP and members of the “G” Division Emergency Response Team were able to locate the tent and take the suspect into custody.

The 47-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Forcible Confinement
  • Sexual Assault with a Weapon
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order
  • Obstructing Justice, and
  • Overcoming Resistance to the Commission of an Indictable Offence

The suspect has already appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and is being held until a court appearance on June 28th. The Yellowknife General Investigation Section has taken over the ongoing investigation. Anyone who has additional information on this case can contact the RCMP at 669-1111.
