YK Education District No. 1 Appoints New Superintendent

Yellowknife’s Education District No. 1 now has a new Superintendent.

The Board of Trustees for the school district recently announced that Shirley Zouboules has been appointed as the new Superintendent, as well as the Chief Executive Officer for the District, and will officially take her new office on July 2nd.

Prior to this announcement, Ms. Zouboules worked as the District’s Assistant Superintendent since 2021. In the past, she has also served as the Regional Inclusive Schooling Coordinator, an Instructional Coordinator, and the Principal of NJ Macpherson School. Shirley has been working with the school district for 35 years now.

Shirley has stated that she is looking forward to building on her relationships in her new role, as well as focussing on student engagement and success. “As a Northerner, I am excited about the direction in which education is headed. YK1 has always centred our work around student engagement and success. Recent curriculum renewal will continue to support our vision of a lifelong learner. I am thankful for the many opportunities I have had so far with YK1 and am looking forward to the new ones this role will provide.”

Some health services in Yellowknife region to see reduced hours Friday

The territorial government says that some health services in the Yellowknife region will operate at reduced hours this Friday. The change in scheduled hours observes the half-day civic holiday on March 20 in recognition of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation’s annual Spring Carnival.
