Yellowknife Fire Division responds to wildland fire on Highway 3

The Yellowknife Fire Division responded to a service call at kilometer marker 324 on Highway 3 on Thursday, July 11 at 12:40 a.m., regarding a fire in a generator shed that had spread to the surrounding forest.

Crews arrived on scene to find the fire had spread to the trees, spanning approximately 280 m2.  The wind driven fire was quickly actioned and extinguished by the YKFD. Firefighters deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire that had spread to the nearby vegetation. Firefighters then used a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

Upon arrival, crews discovered the fire had spread to the trees, covering an area of about 280 m2. The Yellowknife Fire Department rapidly responded to and extinguished the wind-fueled fire. Firefighters deployed a hose line to put out the flames that had reached the nearby vegetation. They then employed a thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire was thoroughly extinguished.

The incident has been turned over to the Office of the Fire Marshal for investigation.
