Recently constructed tent pad was destroyed during fire

Last Saturday, the Yellowknife Fire Division, with help from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Climate Change, responded to a fire 150m behind the Legislative Assembly building. Crews found a prebuilt tent pad on fire, which spread to the surrounding vegetation. The recently constructed tent pad was destroyed during the fire.

The fire was contained to the area using hose lines until completely extinguished. They then conducted an overhaul to ensure the fire was completely out.

The City of Yellowknife reminds residents that local and regional fire bans are in place. Failure to follow these fire bans puts the whole community at risk.
