Members of the Hay River RCMP have dismantled an alleged Hay River grow-op after executing a search warrant earlier this month.
According to police, officers out of the Hay River detachment responded to a call for service at a residence in the municipality. Following their attendance, officers reported finding a “large number” of cannabis plants on the property.
Later, on September 6th, after receiving authorization, officers attended the residence once again and executed a search warrant under the Cannabis Act. As a result, 40 cannabis plants were seized, ten times the legal amount of plants under the act.
Since then, police have charged a 70-year-old Hay River man with allegedly possessing more than four cannabis plants contrary to section 8(1) of the Cannabis Act. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
