GNWT encourages organizations to apply for Take a Kid Trapping funding

The GNWT is urging residents across the territory to apply for Take a Kid Trapping funding in an effort to get more young people out on the land.

Schools, Indigenous governments, and Indigenous organizations can apply for funding for a number of specific projects.

The GNWT suggests projects can range from practical skills such as trapping, setting fish nets, hunting, cooking outdoors, firearm safety, conservation and more. Officials maintain that those activities teach traditional life skills that must be protected for the next generation.

Successful applicants can receive funding up to $8,000 and have a year to create an on-the-land learning experience for youth between the ages of six and 20.

Individuals may not apply; however, the GNWT says they are encouraged to work with local schools or organizations to create a proposal.
