UPDATE: Yellowknife Resident Dead after Vehicle Collision

Several ambulances were called to the scene of a pedestrian/vehicle collision on Friday afternoon in Yellowknife.

The accident took place around 5pm at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and 50th Street. A single black truck could be seen, with the injured individual on the ground nearby. Several ambulances arrived to take them to the hospital, and afterwards, several police vehicles took to the scene to investigate and divert traffic away.

More details, including the condition of the pedestrian, have yet to be released at this time.

UPDATE: The RCMP have released more information on this matter.

The victim was a 62-year-old woman. After the accident, she was quickly taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced as deceased.

The police investigation has lead to the belief that the driver of the truck was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The driver is currently being held in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
