The NorthWords writer’s group is holding a few special events over the November 8th weekend.
Always serving as an avenue for Northern writers to help get their start, NorthWords NWT will be holding an open mic night with local writers and performers. Known as GATHER, the evening will be held on the second floor of the Bluebell Eatery at 5006 Franklin Avenue in Yellowknife.
Some of the featured speakers of the event will include Cassandra Blondin Burt, Georges Erasmus, and Carly Straker, each of whom will be debuting the launch of a new piece of their work.
NorthWords’ President, Robyn Scott, will be hosting the event. GATHER will have participants take to the stage for five minutes at a time to share their original works. Book sales and signings will also be taking place at Yellowknife Books, as well as the announcement of the 2023 NorthWords Book Award Winners.
Then, on Saturday, November 9th, the Yellowknife Visitor Centre at Centre Square Mall will be holding the Northern Book Fair.
This event allows visitors to engage with local authors and vendors, discover new books, and bring their own books for signing.
NorthWords says that these events help to exemplify their commitment to promoting literature and storytelling across the NWT, and they invite everyone to take part.
