Yellowknife to Participate in “Winter Lights Across Canada”

The City of Yellowknife will soon be taking part in a nation-wide holiday event once again.

Coming up on Thursday, December 5th, the City Government and the Legislative Assembly will be taking part in the Winter Lights Across Canada event. This event was first launched in 1985 as a festive way to highlight various sites along Confederation Boulevard in Canada’s Capital Region. In the following years, it was expanded to include other sites of interest in Ottawa, and since then, has been expanded even more to include the entire country.

Many Canadian cities take the opportunity to highlight some of their local monuments and sentimental locations with a colourful array of holiday lights. This event serves as a symbolic way to connect all of Canada.

The event in Yellowknife will be held at Somba K’e Park at 4:45pm. Residents will be able to follow the lights from City Hall down to the Legislative Assembly, where they will be treated with warm drinks and snacks. The event will also see various Christmas trees decorated by the Kindergarten students of Yellowknife, Ndilo, and Dettah.

Guests are also advised to keep an eye out for a very special guest from the North Pole.
