Three Arrested in Yellowknife Drive-by Shooting Investigation

Several Yellowknife residents have received multiple charges after an investigation into a drive-by shooting.

On November 24th, officers were informed that the shooting had occurred near the Walmart along Old Airport Road. The victim had been driving their vehicle while being followed by another. The second vehicle then pulled up beside the victim, whereupon a masked suspect trained a gun on them, and the victim reported hearing a thud sound and believed that they had been shot.

Yellowknife officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the Capital Suites parking lot. The vehicle’s three occupants were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle turned up around $20,000 in cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of crime, as well as 2 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, additional drug supplies, ski-masks, and several bladed weapons.

The investigation also revealed that the victim’s vehicle had not been shot, and that an imitation firearm must have been used as a scare tactic.

  • Laundering the Proceeds of Crime, and
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)

All three suspects have appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and remain in police custody.
