Just in time for the holidays, the True North FM team has decided to give back to the community.
On November 30th, True North FM held our annual Stuff the Bus food drive. For this event, we worked with the Yellowknife Co-op and many local volunteers to package and sell up to 500 bags of food to be donated to the Salvation Army and the Yellowknife Food Bank.
This year went better than was expected, with all 500 bags having been sold away by 1:00pm. An additional hundred bags were quickly assembled, and were also quickly sold!
Eventually, it was decided that instead of assembling new bags, Stuff the Bus would sell the bags back to the Co-op, and then the money raised would be given to True North FM to use how we saw fit.
In total, an additional $3,800 was raised through this re-sell idea. To carry on the spirit of providing food to those who need it, True North FM decided to donate the money to Yellowknife’s three school boards to be put towards their respective food programs!

Graham Arts, the Assistant Superintendent for the YK1 District, spoke on the importance of these programs, saying that “In all schools, we have food that is available both informally and formally to the students, and I know that almost every student in the schools where I’ve worked as a Principal has availed themselves at one point or another of having a snack or forgetting a lunch, so these programs reach a lot of students.”
