Folk on the Rocks Holding Special Mini-Concert in February

Getting well ahead of the year’s events, Folk on the Rocks is holding a small scale music event in February.

Taking place at Yellowknife’s The Underground/Frybread Kings and being put together with help from the Canadian Live Music Association, this event is called “Setting the Stage” and helps to celebrate new up-and-coming artists around the city. While the artist lineup is small, the event is still a unique opportunity to enjoy some live, local music.

Carly McFadden, the Artistic Director for Folk on the Rocks, explained how they got this event organized.

The program is designed to feature artists who are just beginning their professional journeys and both of these artists are doing just that while already creating beautiful work so we thought they would be an excellent fit.”

The first artist booked for the event is Cassandra Blondin Burt. A two-spirit Dene Musician, as well as a poet and earth medicine maker, Cassandra was raised in the music scene of Vancouver’s East Side in the 90’s, and has been performing solo and group musical acts over the last ten years.

The second artist planned for the night is Allister James McCreadie. With his acoustic guitar, Allister puts his heart and soul into his signature folk style, with both original songs and covers of classics.

McFadden added that “The program is designed to feature artists who are just beginning their professional journeys and both of these artists are doing just that while already creating beautiful work so we thought they would be an excellent fit.”

This event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 13th at 7:00pm. This event is only for people over the age of 19.
