Hay River Announces $565k Investment to Golf Course & Tourism

The Town of Hay River is being given a major investment to help revitalize their local tourism sector.

In an announcement made by Michael McLeod, the Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories, and Kandis Jameson, the Mayor of Hay River, the community will be receiving a federal investment of more than $565,000 to be put towards the local golf course, and the campground improvement project.

MP McLeod shared some additional details on what kind of improvements will be made.

“This $565,000 will support the Town of Hay River in installing new greens, upgrading and expanding the campgrounds, and upgrading the clubhouse with infrastructure such as catering and audio-visual equipment. The Town of Hay River is planning on contracting local businesses to complete this work and further the local economy.

“This project will not only support tourism in the South Slave region, but it will also help Hay River improve local experiences towards growing the community.”

When Mayor Jameson took to the podium, she spoke quite highly of the new development.

“Tourism plays a crucial role in diversifying the Hay River economy, and brings valuable business and opportunities for our outfitters, retailers, and service providers, strengthening our community, and enriching the lives of its residents.

“Hay River’s spectacular, natural environments and exceptional recreational amenities attract thousands of visitors each year, not only to our town, but to the surrounding area. Our beautiful golf course, nestled along the Hay River, is one of those amenities. With the pending upgrades to the golf course, we are poised to establish our reputation as premier golfing and event destination.”
