Yellowknife’s Solid Waste Facility is back to its regular operating hours after dealing with a months long subsurface fire.
The fire was originally noticed back in October inside the Construction and Demolition Landfill cell. After keeping a close eye on the fire, the facility was forced to reduce its public operating hours to allow for the Fire Department to take a crack at putting it out.
Fortunately, the fire has now been extinguished, and the Solid Waste Facility is back to its normal hours.
Residential hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday to Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
- Closed: Holidays
Commercial hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
- Closed: Holidays
The City has expressed their thanks to the various partners and contractors who provided aid in monitoring and eventually extinguishing the fire. They have also sent their thanks to the public for their patience on this matter.
