Yellowknife Vet Gives Update on New Business

A representative of Yellowknife’s upcoming animal hospital has shared some more information on the ongoing situation.

For the last several days, Dr. Katie Denroche and her team have been working hard to establish the Aurora Veterinary Hospital in Yellowknife after the sudden closure of one of the City’s only other vets, the Great Slave Animal Hospital.

The sudden change left many local residents with plenty of questions, which Dr. Katie did her best to answer in a large post on the Aurora Vet’s Facebook page.

At this time, Dr. Katie says that they are focusing on getting the practice to a point where they can finally begin operation. This includes making sure medications are properly stocked and equipment is installed. She says that they are making good progress on this front.

Additionally, the Aurora Vet is making sure that their license is approved before they open their doors. Dr. Katie says that the powers that be have told her that they are working to get it approved soon, and that she understands the need for Yellowknife residents to have their animals taken care of.

Dr. Katie is hoping that Aurora Vet will be fully operational within the next few months, but says that it will “depend to some degree on factors outside of our control.” In the meantime, if any locals are in need of urgent care for their animals, Dr. Katie has said that they can be contacted through Facebook Messenger, where they will provide assistance where they can. If they are unable to help, they will direct pet owners to YK Vet, or recommend that they travel south for care.
