The Yellowknife RCMP were recently called on to respond to a firearm incident at the Stanton Territorial Hospital.
The incident occurred around 3:25 in the afternoon, when officers received the call that somebody was pointing a firearm at one of the security officers just outside the hospital. The suspect quickly fled the scene, and the officers began searching for them with the help of the Police Dog Services unit.
After about twenty minutes, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. Nobody was injured throughout the course of this incident.
25-year-old Brenden Qirngnirq from Yellowknife has been charged with:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Mischief under $5,000, and
- Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.
After appearing before a Justice of the Peace, Brenden has been returned to custody, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
