NTHSSA Recommending Rescheduling of Non-Urgent Dental Care

As Spring approaches and travel plans are expected to become more common, the GNWT and the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority are encouraging Yellowknife residents to reconsider some of their dental appointments.

This advisory is intended for those who have non-urgent dental care needs. The GNWT is recommending that patients reconsider and possible reschedule their appointments that require travel. All of this is due to the limited access to dental care in Yellowknife, which is expected to become even more limited as travel and tourism increase in the coming weeks.

The GNWT and the NTHSSA have provided a few options to help alleviate accommodations issues.

Residents who are covered under the Non-Insured Health Benefits program are encouraged to confirm their accommodations before they make their appointments. Residents of Beaufort-Delta should confirm their coverage with the NIHB or with their own provider, and can also consider booking their dental appointment in Whitehorse. Any residents who have already booked their travel and accommodations are asked to look into booking non-urgent dental appointments only.

Patients with coverage outside of the NIHB should check in with their providers to see if they can help with travel and accommodations, and all other patients should look into finding private accommodations, such as family and friends.
