YK Man Arrested after Fake Firearm Incident

A Yellowknife man is facing several charges after using a fake firearm to make threats.

At 7:00pm on March 6th, Yellowknife officers were informed that a man was pointing a firearm at the city’s Sobering Centre. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and secured the perimeter. A suspect was quickly located and arrested without incident.

During their investigation, officers found the firearm in question, which was a black revolver that turned out to be fake.

Due to this incident, 43-year-old Darren Kenny has been charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Using an Imitation Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
  • Uttering Threats against a person, and
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Person.

Kenny is currently remaining in custody until an appearance in Territorial Court on March 25th.
