An Alberta Youth has been arrested in Whati after being caught with drugs and a firearm.
Around 5:30 on March 11th, Whati police were informed of an instance of drug trafficking at a local residence where children were also present. When police arrived, they found a male suspect who provided a false name, and was quickly arrested after obstructing one of the officers.
Further investigation of the residence revealed around 100 grams of cocaine, $6,000 in cash, and a pistol with ammunition.
The arrested suspect is an Alberta youth who cannot be publicly named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have been charged with:
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
- Weapons Possession contrary to a Prohibition Order
- Unsafe Storage of Firearms
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking.
After appearing before a Justice of the Peace, the suspect has been returned to custody, and will make another appearance on March 13th.
