Two Alberta Men Arrested with Drugs & Firearm near Norman Wells

After a traffic stop on a winter road near Norman Wells, two men have been arrested and charged for being caught with drugs and a firearm.

The incident occurred on March 10th, when Norman Wells RCMP were informed of two suspicious individuals who were exhibiting odd behaviour in a luxury vehicle on the winter road connecting the community to Fort Good Hope.

Officers were able to find the vehicle, and found that the occupants were two men from Alberta who were under court order to remain inside the province. Both men were arrested, and one was found to be in possession of cocaine.

A search of the vehicle uncovered more drugs, suspected to be methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. In total, approximately 247 grams of methamphetamine, 194 grams of cocaine (including a quantity of crack cocaine) and 13 grams of fentanyl were seized. After acquiring a search warrant and further inspecting the vehicle, a concealed pistol was also discovered.

The two Alberta men, 23-year-old Kyle Haman and 30-year-old Devon Comfort, have both been charged with :

  • Two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (methamphetamine)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
  • Two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)
  • Two counts of Possession of a Firearm while Knowking Possession is Unauthorized, and
  • Possession of Property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Devon Comfort faces the additional charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime less than $5,000.

Kyle Haman was the subject of a recent bail, a probation order, and had an active warrant for his arrest. He faces the additional charges of:

  • Nine counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order Conditions
  • Three counts of Failure to Comply with Undertaking Conditions, and
  • Four counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order Conditions.

Both men currently remain in police custody.
