A suspect has been named and charges have been laid in the case of a shooting in Fort Providence that killed one person and put two others in the hospital.
Over the weekend, Fort Providence RCMP were called out to deal with a shooting at a local residence. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one dead man, and another suffering from serious injuries, who was quickly sent to the health centre, while the third victim was already receiving care, and has since been moved to Yellowknife for further treatment.
The following investigation was lead by the Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit, and after several days, the identity of their lead suspect has been revealed.
22-year-old Krystian Cogswell from Surrey, B.C., has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, and two counts of Aggravated Assault.
Cogswell has not been arrested at this time, and remains at large, with a Canada-wide warrant issued for his arrest. He is still considered armed and dangerous, though the investigation has shown that he has fled Fort Providence and is making his way to more southern regions of the NWT.
In addition to the Fort Providence Shooting, Cogswell is also the subject of a warrant from Inuvik regarding drug trafficking from last July, and the subject of bail conditions from B.C. that require him to remain inside the province.
Anyone who may have information on Cogswell’s current whereabouts is asked to reach out to their local RCMP detachment, or Crime Stoppers.
