The City of Yellowknife is informing the public of a recent phone scam that has been targeting residents.
In the last few days, Yellowknife residents have been reporting receiving phone calls claiming to be from the Canadian National Fire Association asking for donations. These donations would allegedly go towards firefighter aid on the City’s behalf.
However, the City is advising locals that they have never gone about collecting donations in this manner, and to refrain from providing any personal information when they receive unsolicited calls asking for money.
Anyone who may have received a call of this nature is advised to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 (888) 495-8501, and to share the occurrence with local authorities so that others can stay informed.
