Yellowknife Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking

Over half a year after his arrest, a Yellowknife man has pled guilty to drug trafficking charges.

In August of 2024, Deline RCMP received a tip that a man named Billy John McNeely would be arriving in the community by plane, and that there were warrants out for his arrest. Once McNeely was apprehended, a search of his immediate belongings revealed around 77 grams of crack-cocaine.

Then, earlier this week on March 31st, before he was able to appear in court, McNeely pled guilty to the charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

McNeely has been sentenced to two years and one day in custody, as well as a ten year firearms probation, and is required to submit a DNA sample to the National DNA Databank.

A representative of the RCMP, Corporal Charles Bond, calls the conviction a “positive outcome to this investigation, sending a strong message to others involved in or considering drug trafficking in our Northern communities.

“The Délı̨nę RCMP will continue to work to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs in the community and encourage residents to share any information they may have on such matters to police.”
