The Ruth Inch Memorial Pool has officially Closed

Yellowknife’s beloved Ruth Inch Memorial Pool has officially closed its doors for the final time.

Throughout March and April, the Pool had put on a handful of week-long, themed events to celebrate the final days of the historic swimming pool. The final event was held on Saturday, April 12th with a free swim day filled with snacks, goodies bags, and musical entertainment, all themed after our favourite superheroes. The City states that the superhero theme was chosen as a way to honour the many lifeguards who have worked at the pool over its many years in operation.

As one chapter ends, another is about to begin. While details regarding the opening of Yellowknife’s new Aquatic Centre are being kept close to the chest for now, the City is certain that it is on track for an official opening sometime this summer. Once it is open, the hours of operation for the new pool will be from 6:00am to 10:00pm from Monday to Saturday, and 8:00am to 10:00 on Sundays.

As for the old location, the City has confirmed that while it is too old to be properly used as a pool, safety assessments have confirmed that the building is viable for repurposing. Basic maintenance will keep the building upheld until a decision can be made about how to use it in the future. That decision is not expected to be made until sometime in 2026.

The City of Yellowknife will provide updates to the public throughout the decision making process.
