On Saturday residents of 4024 School Draw Avenue in the city of Yellowknife were evacuated after fire alarms blasted through the halls. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported and no structural damage to the building occurred.
Saxon Chung, corporate communications advisor for the city, provided information and updates on behalf of the Fire Department to True North FM regarding the incident.
The call was received at 3:29 p.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division crew and first responders arrived on scene a few minutes later at 3:34 pm to assess the situation. At that point the fire had been extinguished.
Chung confirmed that no injuries were reported.
“On April 19, 2025, the Fire Division responded to a report of a fire on a balcony at School Draw Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire had been effectively extinguished by the activated sprinkler system,” said Chung.
The cause of the fire was identified as the improper disposal of smoking materials by the occupant.
“There was no structural damage as a result of the incident,” said Chung.
