The mandatory fire ban for the City of Yellowknife that has been implemented since July, 12, 2023, has officially been lifted for the municipality.
According to the City, burning is now permitted in approved fire pits only, and burning in unapproved pits will result in a fine.
The City of Yellowknife’s Fire Division remains able to implement a fire ban at any point due to changes and increased risk from weather and environmental conditions.
The City Fire Division says they will continue to monitor conditions and notify the public of any status changes if they occur.
Residents are strongly encouraged to practice fire safety during this time, and ensure all fires are completely out before leaving.
