Gerry Kisoun has been appointed as the commissioner of the Northwest Territories (NWT).
Commissioner Kisoun was born on the trapline in 1953 and brings extensive experience to his new position. From 2011 until 2017, he was the deputy commissioner. After George Tuccaro, the previous commissioner, retired, he also filled the position of acting commissioner.
He will play a crucial role in representing the North’s interests as the Northwest Territories advance towards self-determination and reconciliation.

As an esteemed elder with Inuvialuit and Gwich’in ancestry, his life has been dedicated to the traditions and stories of the Mackenzie Delta. He is known for his empathy, tolerance, and commitment to the welfare of the people across the territory.
