FOTR 2024: Final Wave of Artists Announced!

The third and final wave of artists for Folk on the Rocks has been announced!

The annual music festival is now right around the corner, and those in charge say that it 2024’s show will be bigger and better than ever.

Here is the final batch of musical artists they have lined up:

BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH: Having been formed nearly two decades ago, Bedouin Soundlcash took a nine year hiatus before re-emerging in 2019 with more of their indie/reggae sound. Their work has earned them several JUNO awards, multiple Top 10 radio hits, and international tours with other groups like No Doubt and the Interruptors.

BELLA BEATS: A high-performance dance troupe that aims to build better connections throughout the community. While they have built many great relationships with Northern artists and choreographers, they have also done much work in other provinces and the United States. They’ve served as Arctic Winter Games Cultural Delegates in Alaska, and have also performed on a Broadway stage at the Minskoff Theatre in Times Square.

COWS GO MOO: Perhaps the youngest performers who will be taking the stage at Folk, Cows Go Moo is a six-piece band that performs hard rock songs. Three of the band members are in the eight grade, while the other three are still in elementary school! They are instructed by Speed Control front man Graeme Peters, who also occasionally serves as their third guitarist.

GIANNA: An alumni of the Northern Mosaic Network Performing Arts and Queer Justice Camp, and a regular player in Yellowknife’s open mic scene. This Yellowknife native will be bringing her unique set of cover songs to the festival.

GRACE CLARK: This Metis artist has grown up in Yellowknife, and in inspired by the nature around her, leading her to create a indie pop sound all her own.

JADE TURNER: Inspired by her Indigenous background, Jade Turner has made built upon her talent of telling stories through music. One of Turner’s most powerful original releases is “Worth.” It’s an emotional centerpiece of her 2017 debut album, North Country. That album was then named as Best Country Album at the Indigenous Music Awards in 2017.

JAMES ALYNES: A French language musician originally from Montreal, James is known for his ambitious starting project of producing a single track every day for a whole year. That project became his very first album, “Que Ma Joie Demeure.”

LILAMANCY: A hyperpop virtual band comprised of Alex Summers, Ana Lovelace, Lottie Moontulip, and Ahab Songfroid. Each member has taken the persona of one of the four “seasons of the soul” and bring their audience on a journey “from life to death and back again.”

MIESHAN AND THE SPANKS:  An intense musical duo from Calgary, Miesha Louie gives her all in performing songs that bring out her passions, as well as her full-throated vocals. She is assisted by her accomplished percussionist, Sean Hamilton.

NORTHWORDS STORYTIME: Continuing their mission of promoting literacy and culture in the NWT, Northwords will be taking the stage to shine a spotlight on the stories and voices from the region, and giving local writers a chance to show their work.

PEEKABOO KAZOO: A female-fronted children’s performer from Yellowknife

RAGGED ASS SWING BAND: Consisting of 18 members, this group is based in Yellowknife and features a full horn section, dynamic rhythm, and soulful vocalists.

SARGEANT X COMRADE: Described as “the Queen of Lo-Fi Soul,” Yolanda Sargeant and her producer Comrade essentially created the genre all on their own after being unable to find a specific label that fit their unique style. Their work combines jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, and several other sounds to create something more.

SEAN HAMILTON AND THE AMBER HOUR: Two rhinestone punks on parade, flashing their perfect aesthetics and dazzling earworms. They can perform as a duo with a beat up acoustic guitar, or they go into full flight with their backing band of buds. She’s his muse, he’s her three chords and earnest truths.

TAIGA YOGA: This local yoga studio will be offering several yoga classes during their sets.

WYATT C LOUIS: Last but certainly not least, Wyatt C. Louis explores multiple different genres with his music and complements the sound with his powerful vocals. A Plains Cree songwriter born among parts of Treaty Six, Wyatt brings his amalgamation of life experiences into his tracks.
