Due to the risk of wildfires, the existing fire bans that prohibit open fires in NWT Parks within the North Slave region have been extended until August 7, 2024. The extension now includes all parks in the region. This is in addition to the regional fire bans already enforced NWT Fire.

The following parks have been included in the fire bans:

  • Cameron River Crossing Territorial Park
  • Hidden Lake Territorial Park
  • Madeline Lake Territorial Park
  • North Arm Territorial Park
  • Pontoon Lake Territorial Park
  • Powder Point Territorial Park
  • Prelude Lake Territorial Park
  • Prosperous Lake Territorial Park
  • Reid Lake Territorial Park
  • Fred Henne Territorial Park
  • Yellowknife River Territorial Park

In NWT Parks, camp stoves, enclosed barbecues, and propane-fueled cooking and heating devices are allowed. However, they must be used within regulation fire pits and the flame must not exceed 0.5 meters in diameter and height.

Details on fire bans at Territorial Parks are available on the NWT Parks website, specifically under Fire Restrictions at NWT Parks. Updates are also regularly posted on the NWT Parks Facebook page (fb.com/nwtparks).
