NWT receives first $9 million federal funding boost for infrastructure projects

The federal government has transferred $9 million to the Northwest Territories under the Canada Community-Building Fund to support communities across the territory for local infrastructure priorities.

According to the feds, this is the first transfer through the recently renewed CCBF agreement with the NWT, which will run from 2024 to 2034 and will result in the territory receiving $94.5 million over the next five years.

NWT MP Michael McLeod says investments in infrastructure are an “essential” when it comes to building more affordable communities in the north, and nationwide.

“With this payment through the Canada Community-Building Fund, communities in Northwest Territories will be able to invest in infrastructure projects that meet the needs of their residents today, and ones that support more housing supply for the future,” he says.

CCBF provides communities with continuous and flexible funding across nearly 20 project categories including drinking water, wastewater, public transit, and others.
