Behchoko RCMP recently seized up to $30,000 in cash as well as drugs and a loaded gun while conducting a traffic stop.
The stop was conducted very early in the morning on November 12th. The vehicle was encountered on Highway 3 near Edzo. Upon police discovering contraband tobacco inside the vehicle, all of the occupants were placed under arrest.
A further search of the vehicle revealed the $30k, a loaded handgun, and around 25 grams of what is suspected to be crack-cocaine.
35-year-old John Antoine and 26-year-old Jessica Sabourin, both from Hay River, as well as a 16-year-old Toronto youth are all being charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm (loaded)
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm in a Vehicle
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm without a Licence
- Possession of a Weapon and Prohibited Device (handgun and magazine)
Antoine and Sabourin are both being held in custody until an appearance in court. These two were previously involved in a search warrant in Hay River where officers found Fentanyl and Crack Cocaine.
The Toronto youth appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was then released on the condition that they leave the Northwest Territories.
