The City of Yellowknife will once again be holding a special fireworks display to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
The event will be taking place on Tuesday, December 31st at 8:00pm. City residents are invited to gather at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza to view the show, as the fireworks are being launched over Frame Lake.
The City has shared a few safety reminders for locals to keep in mind. Locals are advised to stay away from the Frame Lake launch area. A map has been created showing the restricted area in red, and the ideal viewing areas marked in green.

Once the display is over, residents are asked to continue to stay clear of the launch area until noon on January 1st, as this will allow city crews to complete a safety inspection in the daylight.
Finally, the City asks that pets are kept at home. The many bright lights and loud sounds are famously distressing to many pets.
