After carrying out a search warrant at a local residence, the Hay River RCMP have seized several firearms and issued an arrest warrant.
This investigation began at the start of February, where Hay River officers were informed that someone in the community had been assaulted at a residence on Woodland Drive. Throughout the investigation, officers learned that the same residence had also been the scene of a person being threatened with a firearm.
A warrant was obtained to search the residence and was carried out by local officers, with some help from the “G” Division Emergency Response Team. The search was conducted on Friday, February 14th, and turned up one long gun and two “pen guns,” along with other pieces of evidence. It is believed that the long gun was used in the previously reported threat.
Four people were detained during this search, but were eventually released. The suspect believed to be behind these incidents was not at the scene, and as a result, an arrest warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Herbert Pekok.
Pekok has been charged with:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon while knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Tampering with the Serial Number of a Firearm, and
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
Pekok is described as an Indigenous male who stands around 5’9” tall and wighing 195lbs. Anyone who may have information about his whereabouts is asked to not approach him, and report his location to the Hay River RCMP at 874-1111.
