The city of Yellowknife announced yesterday the official closure date for the nostalgic community swimming pool as staff prepare for the new Aquatic Centre’s opening.
“To this end, the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool (RIMP) will be closed to the public as of Monday, April 14, 2025, to enable staff training in the new facility,” said the city in their April 3 media release.
All aquatic programming will be temporarily paused as of April 14, until further notice. The city said the interim closure will enable staff training for the new facility.
Saxon Chung, who is the city’s Corporate Communications Advisor, confirmed that the city “anticipates a transition period of approximately one month.”
During this time aquatic services will be paused. For anyone who has purchased swimming passes, the city said they plan to extend passes to pass holders “for the duration of the transition period.”
There is no word yet on an exact date for when the Aquatic Centre will open its doors to the public, but anticipation and excitement are building across the community.
“The City is excited for the Aquatic Centre to open its doors to the public and is dedicated to ensuring a seamless transition as we enhance our community’s aquatic offerings. The City is working with all clubs and user groups to ensure their season-end competitions will not be disrupted.”
City staff said once the Aquatic Centre completes staff training, additional details about the grand opening of the new centre will be announced.
Spring and summer registration for aquatic programs will be announced before the opening of the centre, to “ensure residents are informed and prepared,” said city staff in their latest announcement.
