A previously convicted drug dealer is once again in police custody after a traffic stop conducted in Hay River.
On April 3rd, Hay River officers were informed that the known drug trafficker had been spotted around the community.
The suspect, 20-year-old Abel Leule from Alberta, was soon found driving along Highway 1. He was arrested without incident, and a search of his vehicle turned up $2,870 in cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of crime.
Leule has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, and
- Failure to Comply with Release Order Conditions
Leule was out on bail after previous incidents, and was the subject of a court order to both stay outside of the NWT, and to remain within his home at all times. His criminal history in the NWT consists of a drug conviction and other offences on August 9th of 2024. He was sentenced to 19 months of custody, with most of that sentence being served at the time of this arrest.
