The city of Yellowknife is implementing temporary measures on Old Airport Road today. Skills Canada NWT is hosting a competition at Summit Air on Old Airport Road today and city of Yellowknife announced they will add a temporary crosswalk and reduce speed limits. They will also redirect parking in the area.
“Due to the expected number of participants, overflow parking will be directed to the Bristol Pit parking lot, leading to an increase in pedestrian traffic across Old Airport Road between Summit Air and the parking lot,” said the city.
To help with pedestrian safety, the city is implementing the following temporary measures along Old Airport Road:
- A temporary crosswalk will be installed at key pedestrian crossing points.
- Speed limit signs will be posted, reducing the speed to 30 km/h around increased pedestrian traffic.
“Residents and visitors are advised to drive with caution and be aware of the increased activity along Old Airport Road on the morning of April 11, 2025. A map outlining the location of the temporary crosswalk and speed reduction zone is included below for reference,” said city staff.
