GNWT wants input on how to build resilient communities and advance Reconciliation for a new Indigenous Procurement Policy in the works.
The policy is designed to encourage local economic growth, job creation and skills development.
“The GNWT is committed to increasing Indigenous participation in government contracts. The Indigenous Procurement Policy will help achieve this by creating more opportunities for Indigenous businesses,” GNWT staff said in a media release last week.
GNWT staff said they are looking to help build stronger, more resilient communities and advance Reconciliation across the territory.
GNWT invited businesses, business organizations, and residents to discuss these issues and to discuss “the definition” of a NWT Indigenous businesses at upcoming engagement sessions.
“Businesses, business organizations, and residents are welcome to share input on the definition of an NWT Indigenous business as well as possible approaches for supporting these businesses in GNWT procurement opportunities. The GNWT is also working directly with Indigenous governments and organizations as part of this process,” they said.
Public engagement sessions will be held in each of the following communities:
- Norman Wells (April 29)
- Inuvik (May 6)
- Tuktoyaktuk (May 7)
- Hay River (May 12)
- Fort Smith (May 13)
- Fort Simpson (May 27)
- Yellowknife (May 28)
GNWT asks anyone who would like to participate to attend. A survey is also available online on their website. Anyone who would like more information can go to the Have Your Say Page on GNWT’s website.
